چکیده

Collagen is a ubiquitous protein present in the extracellular matrix of all major metazoan animals, with approximately 28 different human collagen types described literature, each unique physicochemical properties. Collagens found broad application cosmeceutical, pharmaceutical, and biomedical fields can be isolated from environmentally sustainable sources such as marine byproducts, which are abundant fish processing industry highly appealing low-cost sources. In this study, was skins Greenland halibut (Reinhardtius hippoglossoides), an unexplored byproduct plants, using three extraction methods, due to use distinct salting-out methods solution 2.6 M NaCl + 0.05 Tris-HCl pH = 7.5, (method I); combination 0.7 followed by 2.3 7.5 II); one method only 0.9 III), yielding COLRp_I, COLRp_II, COLRp_III collagens. These extracted type I collagens were produced yield around 2 4% characterized regarding properties, considering possible biotechnological applications. This work evidenced that typical triple helix structure conformation preserved but influenced thermal behavior, intrinsic morphology, moisture capacity collagens, interest for application, incorporation ingredient cosmetic formulation. Furthermore, skin byproducts represents high economic value decreasing cost industrial purposes also source uses.

When to count your eggs: Is fecundity in Greenland halibut (Reinhardtius hippoglossoides W.) down-regulated?

Fecundity in several fish species is subject to down-regulation by atresia so if fecundity is estimated many months before spawning, this will be an overestimation of the realised fecundity (actual number of eggs spawned). In order to get accurate measurements of fecundity it is important to have knowledge on when potential fecundity (estimated fecundity at time of sampling) closely resembles t...

Deep-ocean predation by a high Arctic cetacean

A bioenergetic model for two narwhal (Monodon monoceros) sub-populations was developed to quantify daily gross energy requirements and estimate the biomass of Greenland halibut (Reinhardtius hippoglossoides) needed to sustain the sub-populations for their 5-month stay on wintering grounds in Baffin Bay. Whales in two separate wintering grounds were estimated to require 700 tonnes (s.e. 300) and...

Cosmetic Potential of Marine Fish Skin Collagen

Many cosmetic formulations have collagen as a major component because of its significant benefits as a natural humectant and moisturizer. This industry is constantly looking for innovative, sustainable, and truly efficacious products, so marine collagen based formulations are arising as promising alternatives. A solid description and characterization of this protein is fundamental to guarantee ...

Historical and Current Knowledge of the Greenland Halibut from Québec Fixed-gear Fishers in the Gulf of St. Lawrence

Fishing for Greenland halibut (Reinhardtius hippoglossoides) in the estuary and the Gulf of St. Lawrence (NAFO divisions 4RST) has been practiced mainly with gillnets by coastal fishers of Quebec and Newfoundland since the beginning of the 1970s. However, little information is available on the development of this exploitation, for example, on the evolution of the fishing practices. In 1997, a p...

Marine algae as attractive source to skin care.

As the largest organ in the human body, the skin has multiple functions of which one of the most important is the protection against various harmful stressors. The keratinised stratified epidermis and an underlying thick layer of collagen-rich dermal connective tissues are important components of the skin. The environmental stressors such as ultraviolet radiation (UVR) and pollution increase th...
